In any home makeover, the garage is one place that gets neglected most of the time. It is where old furniture, boxes of magazines, and everything that does not belong anywhere is dumped.
Although you do not expect a guest to criticize your garage any time soon, that is no excuse to leave it dirty and disorganized. Your garage, after all, is still part of the house and it is used fairly regularly. It is time to give your garage the attention that it deserves.
Make Repairs
A flickering light bulb that has been bugging you but you never had the chance to replace it. A garage door that does not open or closes all the way. A ceiling fan that you have been wanting to install but never did.
First, you need to address these concerns. Change the lightbulb. It is not difficult to do anyway. Find out what the problem is with your garage doors. You can easily buy a torsion spring from the local hardware store or you can get one made specifically for you by a custom spring manufacturer in Oklahoma. Go to YouTube and look for tutorials on how to install a ceiling fan. Better yet, call a licensed electrician to do the job for you.
Get Decluttering
Next, clean the whole area. Take out all the stuff you have been keeping for years in your garage and decide whether they should remain in storage or can be given away or tossed. People tend to hold on to things that they think they might use some time in the future. However, if it is something that you have not had a need for in the last two years, it is safe to say that you may never use it.
By getting rid of some of your stuff, you are freeing up space in your garage for other, more important, things.
Come Up with More Storage
An easy fix that will make your garage look a little more presentable is by adding storage space. You know that you use the garage to keep all sorts of things, so get yourself cabinets and storage containers. Keeping your possessions in cardboard boxes are not just visually appealing, it is also prone to damage from water in case of a flood or insects that have taken refuge in your garage.
For bigger tools, a genius but inexpensive storage solution is to hang them on the wall. Attach hooks or wall brackets on the wall so that they are not taking up too much space. Moreover, you know immediately where they are when you need them.
Gift Yourself a Workshop
If you are a handyman who likes to tinker with things during your free time, why not transform your garage into your workshop? All your tools are in the garage anyway so you have easy access.
You can buy a workbench for a few hundred dollars, or you can make one for yourself. You can customize it to fit the space and to have additional storage for the tools that you need to be within reach.
These are only some of the things that you can do in your garage. You can give it a fresh wall paint or completely change the flooring but it is not necessary for you to do so.
