If you are a handyman who likes to tinker with things during your free time, why not transform your garage into your workshop? All your tools are in the garage anyway so you have easy access.
You can buy a workbench for a few hundred dollars, or you can make one for yourself. You can customize it to fit the space and to have additional storage for the tools that you need to be within reach.
These are only some of the things that you can do in your garage. You can give it a fresh wall paint or completely change the flooring but it is not necessary for you to do so.
